CSUF Students Ace the Key Art Awards 2008 Competition
5.30.2008
For the first time in the history of the Hollywood Reporter's Key Art Awards, two Calstate Fullerton art students took the first place awards, with Kerri Gaglioti winning in the student category for movie posters and Dara Cornell winning in the student category for movie trailers. In addition, CSUF students Evan Fields and Vincent Yobeanto received 2nd and 3rd places respectively in the poster category where they each tied with students from North Carolina State University and Georgia State University. Calstate Fullerton had more nominees this year than any other school with a total of six nominees (poster category: Kerri Gaglioti, Evan Fields, and Vincent Yobeanto; trailer category: Dara Cornell, Paul Johnson, and Ken Seragaki). A large group of CSUF students alongside Dean of the College of the Arts, Jerry Samuelson, Chair of the Visual Arts Department, Larry Johnson, and professors Cheryl Savala-Lalicker and Christian Hill, attended the announcement event held at the Los Angeles Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. Professor Savala-Lalicker teaches Entertainment Graphics (ART 483E), the course where students learn about the art of entertainment promotional design, mostly in print form. All student winners in the poster category worked with Professor Savala-Lalicker. Professor Hill teaches Motion Graphics Design (ART 483i), where art students learn about short form editing, compositing, and special effects. The winner and nominees in the student movie trailer category developed their trailers in Hill's class. These successes reinforce Calstate Fullerton's reputation as a one of the best art schools in the U.S.A., with its outstanding track record in bringing art students into the expanding entertainment industry.
