Prof Christian Hill Champions Graphic Novels at the SCBWI NYC conference

2.21.2007

Just over a week ago in New York City, Professor Christian Hill spoke to a roomful of illustrators as the opening speaker of the Illustrator's Intensive Day at the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators annual conference. Long a champion of graphic novels, he presented concepts and approaches to help children's book artists transition from thinking of the page as the space for one illustration - as in picture books - to a space with many panels in the case of graphic novels. Hill then held two workshops where the audience consisted of writers, publishers, teachers, editors, and illustrators. They discussed the buzz and challenges about crafting long-lasting and high quality graphic novels for children.
